My first day was long, I am finally settling in to this place. I see mountains all over the place and the sunsets are amazing. Who knew that I would develop such a love for the mountains! As I was flying over Quito, the capital of Ecuador, I was able to see the active volcano spitting out a cloud full of ash. It was an amazing view, one of the most marvelous things I have ever witnessed.
As I looked down on the mountains, I remembered a story my mother told me once about her childhood here in Ecuador. She was afraid to take long trips because it would require going through mountains. She would be very afraid through out the whole ride and cry. Her fear was that at some moment the dinosaurs were going to wake up. In her childish mind, every mountain there was was a sleeping dinosaur. When I looked down from the airplane, I was able to visualize what she meant. I could see how mountains resemble dinosaurs. In the plane itself I was seated next to two people who had a lot of money and it was noticeable. It interesting to see how people from a higher status, interacted with those around them. One of the things I notice is that they knew a lot of people on the plane. Which was a little weird, I have never seen so many people on a plane know each other. They were all business people, who were used to flying back and forth between the cities; they were very rude and loud, as if they owned the plane. Tip, if you know people on a plane, or if you are traveling with others on public transportation, keep it low, there might be others on board who have had a long day… Signing off from Cuenca, Ecuador. Remember to just breathe and take it all in!
